New Series - James
I am starting a new series this week which will run through Palm Sunday. We will be studying the book of James. Below you will find the umbrella theme and the topics we will be addressing.
Let's brainstorm a little and see if we can come up with a good title for the series and maybe some images ideas to drive that home.
Big Idea: How following Jesus plays out in every day life.
Topics:
- Growing through the junk
- Wisdom
- Speech
- Faith / Prayer
- Community Life
- Wealth and future plans
- Submitted to God (Palm Sunday - coincides with the triumphal entry and Christ's lordship in our lives)
So the idea is to look at how following Jesus impacts and changes the way we live. Following him has a drastic and paradigm shifting effect on all of these areas of our lives. When we are dedicated to following him we see changes in the way we face lame situations, what we gain through them, how we speak, we increase in faith, we treat others differently, we look at money different and we fully submit to Jesus and see a change in the way we deal with sin.
I will get the ball rolling with some series title ideas:
- "The Big Picture"
- "When the rubber its the road"
- to play off the TV series - "24: A day spent following Jesus"
- "Transformers - more than meets the eye"
- We could play off a popular album concept or movie theme
Anyway, let's see what we can come up with.

What about working off of "Life" the game? I know others have used it before...
Transformers is cool. That could be fun.
TV Series: Old school could be "Growing Pains" or "Facts of Life"
Top 10 grossing films of 2006

3. X Men: The Last Stand
4. Night at the Museum
5. DaVinci Code
6. Superman Returns
7. Ice Age: The Meltdown

What about "Pursuit of Happyness?"
Just some thoughts...nothing is jumping at me yet.
I like the idea of playing off the the Game of Life...it would be cool. We could buy one of the games, or maybe someone we know has one -- like maybe the old version - and take some cool pictures to use for slides, etc. Like a picture of a car with some of the blue and pink pegs in it, a picture of the wheel you spin, the actual path you follow on the board...just some thoughts.
sorry that last post was from me -- Tanya :)
I think you can't go wrong with the transformers or the life idea. The game of life will provide you with more wiggle room in your metaphors, but the transformers metaphor is timely what with the movie coming out soon.
My parents have the old school Life game, I could play around with some shots of the board or something like that if we are on board for game board thing.
I LOVE that idea. What do you guys think?
Here's another thought, assuming that we head this direction, do you think it might be better to go with the "current" version of the game, in case we want to pick up a couple of games for decor and such? Or maybe use both. That is effective imagery as well...game/life doesn't change through time, maybe just the packaging... What do you think? Sarah, I could grab you a copie of the game and get it to you right away for photos. Ok, this is assuming we head this direction...what do you guys think? It's already Thursday, we need to decide pretty quick.
You write very well.
